10/10/2023

On 04 October 2023, the EARLALL network met with the representatives of the ORKESTRA – Basque Institute of Competitiveness to explore opportunities for collaboration within our network.

The Basque Institute of Competitiveness (ORKESTRA) aims to foster the competitiveness of the Basque Country through action-oriented research to improve the well-being of citizens. The Institute is promoted within the University of Deusto by the Basque Government and aligned with its active industrial promotion policies. It has been working under a public-private cooperation model since 2006 in the Basque Country.

Research Labs

ORKESTRA established four thematic research labs on public policies, energy and environment, wellbeing and smart business. In 2022-2023, ORKESTRA has addressed the talent challenge, with special attention to green Jobs and training.

One of their research areas is focused on understanding the context, levers and outcomes of territorial competitiveness for wellbeing. The research strives to understand and shape the territorial impacts of technological and digital transition Environmental and energy transition; and Social and demographic transition. An interesting tool accessible to everyone is their “Regional Competitiveness Observatory.” This tool compares the situation and evolution of more than 200 European regions through 40 key indicators for competitiveness.

ORKESTRA as a research institute is connected with international organisations and regions in the field of competitiveness. In 2022, the Institute was involved in 9 international projects and 23 partnerships with international universities and research institutes.

All in all, ORKESTRA represents a reliable partner with connections in the public-private sector within the Basque Country. EARLALL will continue the discussion to establish future cooperation opportunities for our network within their field of expertise.
