From 3 to 5 June 2025, the Région Bretagne, in partnership with the association Reconnaître, co-organised the Francophone Open Badges Forum in Vannes, France. This event brought together a diverse audience to explore the use of open badges—a digital, open-source tool designed to recognise and showcase individuals’ formal, non-formal, and informal skills and experiences throughout their personal and professional lives.
The forum aimed to strengthen awareness, dialogue, and practice around open recognition systems. It alternated between collective sessions and hands-on workshops, creating space for shared learning and peer exchange between curious newcomers and experienced practitioners alike.
One of the highlights of the event was the official launch of Breizh Badges, a regional collective of around thirty organisations, including training providers, universities, and integration-focused associations. After two years of informal collaboration, the group formalised its commitment to promoting open badges as a tool for lifelong recognition of skills and competencies across Brittany. The forum also showcased innovative use cases from across the Francophone world, with contributions from Canada, Belgium, and Switzerland.
Participants explored how open badges can serve local communities, support career transitions, and contribute to more inclusive, learner-centred recognition ecosystems.Workshops focused on badge co-design, implementation strategies, and alignment with European frameworks such as DigComp and ESCO.
The event closed with a strong call to action to continue building a shared culture of recognition—locally and internationally. For more information and to explore the outcomes, visit forum.openrecognition.org.
