The Erasmus+ project Pathways – Breaking the Cycle: Innovative Adult and Vocational Education for the Reintegration of People in Prison, which focuses on education in prisons, was presented yesterday to a delegation of regional representatives from Østfold, Norway, by Tangi De Rochefort and Fabienne Martin Goudet from Brittany Region, an EARLALL member.
The presentation put peer learning at the centre. Brittany Region is keen to learn from the Norwegian system, particularly because reoffending rates differ markedly between the two countries: they are high in France and lower in Norway, where education is seen as a key factor. In Norway, education in prisons is part of mainstream education, while this is not the case in France. This difference gave rise to a rich exchange on how education can support rehabilitation and reintegration.
The Østfold session follows another exchange held on Monday 19 October with colleagues from Borås Stad in Sweden. Pathways continues to attract growing interest among EARLALL members and partners, confirming the relevance of education in prisons as a theme for regional cooperation across Europe.
