EARLALL Statement on International Women’s Day – 8 March

07/03/2025

On this International Women’s Day, EARLALL reaffirms its commitment to gender equality in lifelong learning and skills development. As one of the promoters of the Gender Equality Task Force, we continue to advocate for equal opportunities in education, training, and employment.

In our Work Plan 2025, Strategic Priority 3 focuses on building resilient lifelong learning structures in response to demographic and societal changes. This includes addressing challenges such as ageing populations, youth engagement in rural areas, and ensuring that people of all genders have the right skills to support Europe’s evolving industries. We align our efforts with the European Pillar of Social Rights and the EU Gender Equality Strategy, recognizing that work-based skills development plays a crucial role in balancing gender representation in the workforce. By promoting equal access to upskilling and reskilling opportunities, we aim to create a more inclusive and diverse labour market that empowers everyone to thrive.

EARLALL and its members are committed to taking concrete action to promote gender equality in education and employment. Over the past year, we have worked to bring this issue to the forefront through various initiatives. At our Annual Meeting in Barcelona (November 2024), study visits showcased regional efforts to foster gender-inclusive education and employment policies. In December 2024, the Municipality of Borås (Sweden) hosted delegations from the Centre-Val de Loire Region (France) and Mobilitat FP – Institut Escola del Treball (Catalonia) to exchange best practices on gender equality in education and vocational training mobility. In January 2024, we hosted a webinar on Gender Equality in Education and Employment, highlighting innovative regional approaches to tackling gender disparities in lifelong learning.

On this day, we celebrate the contributions of women in lifelong learning and beyond while reaffirming our mission to break down barriers and ensure that education and training systems actively support gender equality at every stage of life. Together with our members and partners, we will continue to foster inclusive and equitable learning environments that empower individuals and strengthen our societies.
