On 25 September, the rapporteur of the Committee of the Regions (CoR) Opinion on the Union of Skills, Emil Boc, Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, hosted a stakeholders’ consultation in Brussels to exchange views with regional representatives, civil society and education stakeholders on this upcoming initiative. The consultation followed the approval of a first draft of the Opinion by the SEDEC Commission, with its final adoption in plenary foreseen for 13–15 October. EARLALL was joined by the Lifelong Learning Platform (LLLP) and its members — including EURASHE and EAEA — in the discussion to share the perspectives of education and training actors on how the Union of Skills can best support regional and local ecosystems in addressing skills needs across Europe.
EARLALL actively contributed to the process by sending its official position to the rapporteur, as the organisation did in April to the Cabinet of Vice-President Mînzatu, highlighting the crucial role of regions in shaping and implementing the Union of Skills. The organisation called for an active involvement of regional authorities in the governance structure and advocated for a seat for regions at the High-Level Skills Board, the main governance body of the Union of Skills.
Through this engagement, EARLALL reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that regional voices are represented in the development and governance of European skills policies, aligning with the network’s long-standing mission to strengthen the regional dimension of education, training, and lifelong learning.
