- EARLALL General Assembly, 30 Sept - 2 October 2009

EARLALL has recently organised its General Assembly at the School of Business and Economics at the University of Gothenburg.

The morning of the 1st of October was dedicated to the internal business of the Association. You can find all items and documents at the end of this page. The elections of the EARLALL Board were also held, with the following result:

The new President of the EARLALL board is Mr. Gianfranco SIMONCINI from Regione Toscana (Italy). Other board members are:

  • Vice-president: John GRIFFITHS AM - Welsh Assembly Government (UK)
  • Treasurer: Karsten Uno PETERSEN - Region of Southern Denmark (Denmark)
  • Member of the Board: Candida MARTINEZ LOPEZ  - Junta de Andalucia (Spain), Joseph FRANCÍ - Generalitat de Catalunya, Georg WACKER MdL - Landesregierung Baden-Württemberg & Didier LEBUHAN - Region Bretagne.

In the morning of the 1st of October participants could listen to presentations about the priorities in the field of education of the current Swedish Presideny and the upcoming Spanish Presidency by Mrs Amelie von Zweigbergk (Ministry of Education and Research, Stockholm) and Mrs Soledad Iglesias Jiménéz (Ministry of Education, Madrid).

This was followed by EARLALL's EU Policy Update and presentation of the Barcelona agreement on training mobility in initial vocational education and training. Furthermore, the Commission Green paper on the Mobility of Youth was discussed and members were consulted in preparation for EARLALL's joint response which will be submitted to the Commission in December.

The afternoon of the 1st of October was dedicated to the topic of Liberal Adult Education in Sweden. A number of presentations were given and participants were divided into linguistic groups in which the Swedish liberal adult education system was discussed from different national perspectives.

The seminar of the 2nd of October was entitled 'Reacting to the Crisis' and started with a presentation of the interim findings of the EARLALL scoping study 'Mapping lifelong learning needs and responses in the context of the Economic Crisis in the EU' by Ms Daniela Ulicna from GHK Consulting. Participants were divided into three workshops in order to discuss regional and national measures taken to tackle the crisis. The final report will be presented in December.

This exercise was followed by presentations by Mr Geoff Glover (Head of HR at VOLVO Cars, Gothenburg) and Mr Paul Byard (External Affairs Manager, Engineering Employers Federation, Wales) about how competence questions are handled in times of the crisis.

The day ended with a 'Market Place' led by Mrs Elisabeth Kranz, Head of the ESF Council's regional office in Gothenburg. Participants, both members and non-members, had the opportunity to present project ideas and to find project partners.
